Hello and Welcome!

My name is Tamara Akers, Certified Interior Decorator and Owner of LTB Designs, a Frederick County MD based, award-winning residential design company that offers full-service Interior Decorating, Redesign, Room Finishing and Organization. It was 12 year ago that I started this journey professionally although design and construction have been part of my life since I was a child. From romping around in the woods building forts to decorating anything I could get my hands on, the need to create has always been a part of me and is as necessary as air. Today, that passion as well as my desire to bring beauty into the lives of others, provide outstanding customer care, and well-thought out, excellent design are the reasons behind my successful business. At LTB Designs, we believe in turning a house into a home, helping create what home means to you. Let's get you to where you enjoy coming home again.
Do It Yourself

I'm all for Doing It Yourself. That's how I started... It was a beautiful Spring day about 20 years ago. We had lived in our new "used" home for about a year now and as I was sitting on the proverbial 'throne', I decided that my master bathroom made no sense at all and something needed to change. It was a very small space with multiple doors that housed two different mindsets - the dressing area and the poop, shower, shave area. As you walked through the first door, there was a sink/vanity to the right and to the left was a closet. Not an enclosed closet mind you, but a space with countless fabrics of all shapes, color and sizes that incessantly hounded you as you saw its reflection in the mirror. You could never shut away the mess. As you fell through the second door, you were met by the toilet sitting right dab center of the room and a bath/shower combination on the left. What Makes A Room Come To Life

Adding millwork can make all the difference. It fills the room, adds dimension, architectural interest, and creates a framing quality to your cherished objects. For the purple lover in all of us, add a deep sensual color to just about any space in your home and notice how it instantaneously warms up the space. Accessories bring personality to your space. Elevate your collectibles by placing them on a beautiful tray. As an added little bonus, a stone fireplace adds a rustic element to an elegant room, making it a warm, inviting space. Don't be afraid to marry rustic with elegance. Here, it brings a casualness to the space, making it more approachable and livable.

A Welcoming Entryway

When you walk into your home, make sure it welcomes you with open arms. Then it needs to wrap its arms around you and give a big squeeze. This fresh and inviting entryway incorporates elegance with a bit of rustic. One little tip - don't fuss with real candles in those hard to reach sconces. Use the battery operated ones with a remote to provide ambiance during the evening hours.

Pops of Color

Color, color, color! This trio of blue, orange and green stimulates the appetites while creating a rich and cozy atmosphere. Who says the centerpiece should be a floral? Dry putting one in the chandelier. It brings a uniqueness to the space.

The Well Organized Pantry

Don't you just love when you can find everything and at a quick glance see how much of something you have. This system is far from difficult to manage. Once it is set up, It's as time consuming as opening a store bought package of pasta and dumping it into the pre-marked container. Or if you are done with that product, simply change the label and reuse the container.

A Dream Bedroom for a Girlie-Girl

This teen's bedroom was a wonderful challenge because we had to marry two things - her love of the North Carolina Tar Heels and her fashionable girlie-girl style. When she saw her room for the first time, she told her Aunt, "Tammy put the room together for me and she nailed it. It's a little bit of everything and all over the place and that's me, Auntie. Its so perfect."

Testimonials
I have used LTB Designs on two different occasions. The first time LTB Designs helped me was with a master closet design and organization. I was so pleased with Tamara's organizational skills that I hired her to assist with my whole house design when I moved into a new upscale home. I can only describe the services as top notch. Tamara's attention to detail, thoroughness, stamina, and decorative skills made a challenging transition much more comfortable for me. She consulted with me to understand my habits, and lifestyle. I put my transition in Tamara's hands and could not have been more pleased. - J. Meadows, Frederick, MD
I had the opportunity to work with Tamara as the flooring contractor in her own home. I was immediately impressed with how beautifully her home was decorated. All the parts and pieces, colors, textures just worked in concert. It really is very beautiful. I asked who she worked with. I was impressed to learn that she had done it. Tamara has a fabulous eye for detail. I asked her assistance with a project I was doing in my showroom. Working with a designer, color consultant or decorator, it is so important that they "get it". She understood what feel I wanted. Her encouragement to follow my own feelings was really important to me. So many designers I've worked with in the past want to do their own thing. I appreciated her input. - G. Petersen, Petersen's Flooring, Frederick, MD
I hired LTB Designs to take a run-of-the-mill townhouse and make it stunning and elegant. Tamara understood my vision and took it to a whole other level. Her creativity exceeded my expectations. She was professional yet personable. I felt at ease the moment we met. She understood how important it was to work within my budget and we didn't go a penny over. I continue to work with her to this day. I'm planning out my next projects in a single family home I own and she was the first and only one I called. I trust her implicitly and would highly recommend her to anyone. - S. Creighton, LaPlata, MD
I had never hired a color consultant or decorator, but after months of indecision about what to do with my foyer/living room, I decided to give it a try. Based on her excellent reviews I hired Tammy. After listening to my goals as to what I was trying to achieve, she recommended the colors that gave the right mood and feeling that I wanted in my arts and crafts house. Colors that were just right, and I would not have found on my own. She also provided several drapery fabrics options for my west facing living room wall of windows, and helped me pick the perfect one, and brought together my hodgepodge of new and old furnishing with recommendations for what to add in the future and what to take away. She's a total professional and wonderful to work with, sensitive of your budget, and very creative and dedicated to helping you achieve your design goals. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. - Diane R., Middletown, MD
For my 15th birthday all I wanted was a beautiful room, and I got that plus a million. Ms. Tamara came to my home... discovering what type of person. She returned in less than a week at 7 am sharp and started to make my dream room come true. She worked from dawn to dusk working harder than anyone could, hanging blinds, curtains, pictures, the perfect lighting, all my favorite colors, anything a 15 year old could dream of... I came upstairs to see my gift and it was breathtaking, everything i asked... I looked around, it was everything put together to describe me... As I lay in my bed, I look around everyday and realize how amazing my room came along and it would have never ended up thiis [way] without LTB Designs. And I wanna thank you again for making all of my unordinary dreams come true!!! - Mia, LaPlata, MD
Well, I will start by saying the entire experience was wonderful. I had Tammy decorate the Living Room on a shoe string budget. She transformed the place into a rustic theme. I was surprised at how hands on she was throughout the process. Tammy was very knowledgeable about the color schemes, textures and even the frame work of my existing house. I was impressed. The curtains are probably my favorite new piece that she added to the room. It really completed my new look. I would recommend her to my friends, family and co-workers. Now my sister is having my niece's room done by LTB Designs. I will use Tammy at LTB Designs again! - Stacey B., Waldorf, MD
