The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam Volume I

“The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam Volume I” is a memoir that spans a very interesting life, from a childhood in the idyllic island of Kauai to the horrors of Vietnam to the heartbreak and confusion when a beloved daughter marries the wrong man. Ismael—Pineapple Sam—is born the youngest of eight children and is trouble from the start, with an unexpected Cesarean birth to his gentle, wise mother. He grows up in a rowdy family and is full of mischief, supplementing monies to his father's meager plantation salary with a paper route and spending time with his beloved dog Willy. In high school, he gets a job picking pineapples and has a ghostly and otherworldly encounter with a woman in white while spear fishing; he has his first romance and travels to the mainland before eventually joining the United States Marines. His experiences there leave him with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) that will haunt him for years and influence the rest of his life.

Book Title: Garden of Sugar and Pineapples Review by: Pamela Brown on Feb. 25, 2012 : Truly enjoyable tales of growing up on Kauai when things were simpler. Sam shows you pictures with his words of what Kauai was like, and with his dialog, puts you right in the room (or on the mattress on the floor or in the stolen boat) with him and his buddies. He writes with warmth, humor and fondness for the island where he grew up.
Review by: Richi Gurl on Feb. 11, 2012 : From the moment I started reading this book up to the end, I just had a smile on my face. It had the perfect dose of humor and wistfulness which not so many authors can achieve. This book should be specifically commended for its attempt to use a socially-fit theme. The author was able to relate it to the modern world setting inconspicuously. I’m giving two thumbs up for this book. It is definitely good read!
Book Title: Hawaiian Pineapple Jarhead Review by: Anastasia Gana on Feb. 21, 2012 : Another Interesting story ! I enjoyed this one very much. Great Dialogue throughout. =)
Review by: Richi Gurl on Feb. 11, 2012 : I admired the voice behind the character. It had the perfect combination of humor, nostalgia, and surprise. The language also fit into the story—something that would make you want to read out loud all the dialogues. The author was able to avoid the risk of sounding too flat when he allowed his main character to do the narration. I think this is superb. In fact, I think this is a good piece of literature.
Book Title: Pineapple Picking Cowboy Review by: Pamela Brown on Feb. 24, 2012 : A very fun romp through the highjinx and fun times Pineapple Sam had growing up on Kauai in Hawaii, experiences very unique to the smaller Hawaiian islands. His dialog brings all his stories alive and his descriptions let you "see" what Sam did. Very, very enjoyable! Mahalo, Sam!
Review by: Richi Gurl on Feb. 11, 2012 : I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are well established and the plots drive the readers to know more. It is a complete page-turner. I finished it in one-sitting. It’s very hard to put this book down once you started reading it.
Book Title: Killing Peace Review by: Steve Brock on March 24, 2012 : This segment of the story had a lot more action in it. I could relate to it even though I never experienced combat duty. I highly recommend it for anyone. This is an example how the military is secondary to politics. No wonder the United States has a lot of problem. Ever since the Korean War, we had police actions. Even the so called wars we have now, they are not wars.
Book Title: Friday the 13th Wedding Review by: Anastasia Gana on Feb. 21, 2012 : Joe did the right thing by going to the wedding, despite the heartache and difference he had with his daughter and her Fiancée. Great writing, I could really feel the emotion Joe endured.. =)
Book Title: Hijacked Luxury Limo Review by: Anastasia Gana on Feb. 21, 2012 : Wow, this story is a rollercoaster of adventure! My eyes were glued to my laptop. What a great story, I have to recommend this to anyone needing some suspense and mental thrill!
